Derek Shia, MD

Dr. Shia is an orthopedic surgeon who enjoys tackling a wide variety of orthopedic problems but specializes in sports and reconstructive surgery of the shoulder and elbow.  He attended Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. where he graduated cum laude.  Following medical school Dr. Shia completed both his residency in orthopedic surgery and a shoulder and elbow sports and reconstructive fellowship at Washington University in Saint Louis Missouri.  While at Washington University, Dr. Shia was involved in the care of the professional sports teams including the St. Louis Rams and the Blues.  While completing his residency and fellowship, his program was annually in one of the top three high volume centers in the country performing shoulder and elbow replacements, including the newly designed "reverse" shoulder replacement.  His previous and ongoing research in the field of orthopedics includes publications regarding the shoulder and elbow, hip, foot and ankle.
