I grew up in Portland and attended the University of Miami in South Florida for my undergraduate degree, and graduated with my masters and doctoral degrees from Oregon Health & Sciences University. I was inspired by many of my faculty in my undergraduate nursing program to pursue a career as a nurse practitioner and nursing educator. Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, I worked as an emergency room nurse for six years. I love The Portland Clinic for their focus on clinical excellence, team work , and their employees. I also work part time teaching undergraduate nursing students acute care nursing. Prior to joining The Portland Clinic, I worked in another urgent care, and also spent a year working in women’s health and pediatrics.
I practice Urgent Care because I love variety and meeting knew people every day. I strive to listen to my patients closely, practice safely and efficiently, and always spend time educating my patients and their family members about their illnesses and how they can improve their health. I find empowering my patients and giving them the tools to take care of themselves and their health a rewarding and important aspect of my position.
I make time every day to take care of myself. I make it a daily goal of mine to be active, even if I only have twenty minutes. Nearly every day of the week, I work out at the gym or do group exercise classes with friends. In my free time I enjoy playing golf, watching movies and documentaries, traveling, and good food and wine.
I love spending time with my “Rescue Mutt,” Phoebe, friends and family. I am an avid gardener, I have an extensive rose collection, and in the summer I spend many hours tending to a large vegetable garden. I try to go abroad yearly to do global health work in developing nations with a local nonprofit organization- these experiences are good for the heart and soul.
