United Nations World Diabetes Day
On November 14, 2008 health care leaders and practioners all over the globe observed the first annual United Nations World Diabetes Day. Established last December by a U.N. resolution, the official U.N. day recognizes the impact of diabetes on health and makes a commitment to improving worldwide efforts in prevention, treatment and education.
Every 10 seconds, two people are diagnosed with diabetes, and one person dies from diabetes-related causes. By 2025, more people will have diabetes than the current populations of the United States, Canada and Australia combined.
The Portland Clinic Diabetes Care Center is proud to do its part to support diabetes prevention, treatment and education in Oregon and Southwest Washington. We salute the U.N. for its bold initiative.
