Healthcare practice will move to new 24,000 square foot facility in 2018

Portland, Ore. – The Portland Clinic announced today that it has signed a long-term lease for a new healthcare center on the east side of the Rose City to improve access for patients and to expand the specialties offered in the area.

The 24,000-square-foot space on NE 50th Avenue and Sandy Boulevard will house all of the clinic’s staff from the current smaller locations at NE 20th Avenue and Sandy Boulevard and NE 122nd Avenue and Airport Way. The new office will provide the major medical services currently offered by The Portland Clinic on the east side of Portland, including behavioral health, cardiology, dermatology, diabetes services, family medicine, foot and ankle/podiatry, gastroenterology, internal medicine, manual medicine, neurology, physical therapy, primary care and radiology, and the expanded space will allow additional room to grow patient-related services in the future.

“Portland’s population is expanding rapidly. We’re seeing growing demand for our medical services throughout the city and we want to position our services in convenient locations to serve current and new residents,” said Dick Clark, CEO, The Portland Clinic. “We constantly monitor the landscape of Portland and adjust where our doctors and nurses practice based on these needs. This new facility not only improves access

for our patients on the East Side, it also makes it possible for us to expand the services we offer.”

Patients First

Offering ample vehicle and bicycle parking, safe sidewalks and easy access to TriMet, the new location will make it easy for patients to visit their doctor or a specialist throughout the year. In addition, this space expands the clinic’s total footprint on the east side by nearly 6,000 square feet.

“This extra space opens a wide variety of future options of additional care possibilities as the national models of medical care are being refocused to serve patients” added Clark. “We will always place patients first. Our team is currently evaluating what additional specialties and resources would be of most use to neighbors in this area. We are very excited to provide even more valuable care in the future.”

The Portland Clinic staff will also be working closely with current patients in the coming months to facilitate a smooth transition to the new space.

“One of the pillars of our practice is that relationships matter. Our doctors, nurses and staff build lifelong relationships with our patients and they are truly invested in their care,” added Clark. “Our entire team is focused on ensuring that patients who move from one of our existing east side locations to our beautiful new facility enjoy a seamless experience and uninterrupted care.”

Keeping a Portland Space Truly “Portland”

While the entire Portland Clinic team is pleased to expand access to patients in the Hollywood neighborhood, the opening of this facility marks a transition for another Portland landmark. The building that will house The Portland Clinic’s new healthcare center – developed by well-known, locally-owned Venerable Properties that has a history of renovating Portland landmarks such as Washington High School, the White

Stag Building and the Telegraph Building – will sit on the property that is the home of the iconic Der Rheinlander restaurant.

“Enjoying the delicious German dinners at Der Rheinlander has been as much a part of our family as any other Portland tradition,” Clark said. “While we were very sad to hear that Der Rheinlander is closing its doors, we take solace in knowing that the space will be used to continue to serve the city in a positive way. As one of this city’s oldest medical practices, we take pride in our deep, historic Portland roots and want to continue to serve as part of the fabric of this beautiful region.”

Commitment to the Community

The Portland Clinic has always taken its commitment to the community beyond providing outstanding care to our neighbors by actively supporting local nonprofits and educational programs. For example, on the east side, a doctor and medical assistant recently provided free flu shots to children and mothers being served by a local domestic violence shelter, and the clinic is sponsoring a table at the shelter’s fundraiser

This new space will greatly expand the opportunities for the clinic to serve the community through partnerships with local educational institutions in North and Northeast Portland. The clinic is working with leaders at both Concordia University and the University of Portland to offer training and internship programs for students considering a career in the medical field.

“It is a privilege to serve the people of Portland and we are committed to giving back in every way we can,” Clark said. “All of our clinics across the metro area support their neighbors in different ways. We are quite pleased that this new location will make it possible for us to grow our partnerships with some of the area’s finest schools so that we can help nurture the next generation of medical professionals.”

Ongoing Growth

During the last century, the physical footprint of The Portland Clinic has evolved based directly on the needs of the patients it serves. With the city’s population on the rise, the clinic’s leadership is looking at ways it too can expand to serve the people of the metro area at its other locations in Downtown Portland and Eastern Washington County.
