Internal Medicine - Primary Care
Not accepting new patients at this time.
Working in medicine gives me the opportunity to help somebody every day, to give back to the community and to nourish my ongoing need to continue learning. My patients include older teenagers and adults of all ages. In my practice, I emphasize health promotion and avoiding the medical problems that confront us in modern American life. I treat all the common issues, such as diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol, and also do a fair amount of office-based cardiology. I enjoy getting to know patients on an individual basis, seeing them over the years and, in some cases, seeing entire families, which is one of the more rewarding aspects of practicing medicine.
Following undergraduate work at the University of California, Berkeley, I received my medical degree from the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, Mexico. I completed my internship and residency at Emanuel Hospital. I grew up in California with medical training there and in New York City, as well as two years in Mexico, where I learned to speak Spanish. After moving to Oregon in the 1980s, I fell in love with our beautiful state, where my mother’s family came from.
I ride my bike to work several days a week. Skiing, snowboarding and (occasionally) surfing keep me feeling young. I also enjoy dancing, whether it’s the Lindy Hop or the waltz, and I try to go out to hear live music — from Jazz to country, rock and opera — every week.
