Internal Medicine - Primary Care
Following undergraduate work at the University of California, Berkeley, I received my medical degree from the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, Mexico. I completed my internship and residency at Emanuel Hospital. I grew up in California with medical training there and in New York City as well as 2 years in Mexico where I learned to speak Spanish. After moving to Oregon in the 1980s, I fell in love with our beautiful state where my mother’s family came from.
Working in medicine gives me the opportunity to help somebody every day giving back to the community as well as nourishing my ongoing need to continue learning. I see older teenagers and adults of all ages with an emphasis on health promotion and avoiding the medical problems that confront modern life in America. I treat all the general medical problems such as diabetes, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, as well as a fair amount of office based cardiology. I enjoy getting to know patients on an individual basis over the years and see some entire families which is one of the more rewarding aspects of practicing medicine.
I ride my bike to work several days a week and enjoy the stimulation of interacting with patients. Skiing, snowboarding and occasionally surfing keeps me feeling young. I enjoy dancing whether Lindy Hop or waltz and try to go out to hear live music every week everything from Jazz to country to rock ‘n roll or opera.
