Manual Medicine & Osteopathy
After receiving my D.C. from the National College of Chiropractic in 1986, I went on to earn my D.O. from the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in 1996. I grew up in a military family, so spent my childhood living in different countries and parts of the United States. I have driven through each of the lower 48 states. My healthcare career started as a chiropractor. I practiced in Chicago and taught for 5 years in chiropractic colleges in Chicago and Los Angeles. My medical training was at an osteopathic medical school because I liked the osteopathic philosophy of treating the whole person. My specialty is musculoskeletal medicine, and my primary treatment modality is hands-on manipulative techniques. I am particularly interested in treating muscle pain. I find patients benefit from the use of a variety of osteopathic manipulative techniques. However, as a physician I can also do steroid injections for those stubborn conditions, as well. I enjoy traveling and seeing new sights; probably an extension of my childhood experience. When not traveling, I take advantage of the outdoor activities available to us here in the Pacific Northwest and at home, I enjoy woodworking and home improvement projects. Dr. Starbard was elected as a top doctor in Portland Monthly’s 2014-2018 “Top Docs and Nurses” feature.
