#MeetYourDoc — Antonia McClune DPM, foot and ankle specialist

While many children dream about being firefighters, superheroes or sports stars, Dr. Antonia McClune knew her future was in the operating room. Although passionate about medicine from an early age, once McClune began her formal education she realized her true calling was in foot and ankle treatment.

“I knew that I wanted to specialize in one area of the body,” explains McClune. “As I began to study, I realized that focusing on foot and ankle medicine allowed me to be a surgeon and a clinician while serving a diverse group of patients.”

But McClune wanted more than just the opportunity to see a wide variety of patients — she wanted the ability to connect with each individual and have the freedom to build a deep relationship based on trust in order to provide the best care possible. That was what led her to The Portland Clinic.

“From the moment I first connected with The Portland Clinic, I was struck by their approach to medicine,” says McClune. “The clinic’s multispecialty approach is unique. We are large enough to have lots of people and resources on hand but small enough to still be a physician-run organization that gives every patient personalized attention. I greatly enjoy being able to go down the hall and ask my colleagues of various specialties their opinions on things and vice versa, as well as being able to really invest in my patients.”

A West Coast transplant, McClune first discovered Portland six years ago when she moved to the Rose City for training. While the East Coast will always be home, she finds the Northwest approach to life appealing.

“I find the West Coast attitude so much more pleasant both in work and life,” McClune adds. “I find that people are kinder, friendlier and more genuine. There is honest concern for others. I also absolutely love the food, wine, outdoor life, landscape and the Portland summers.”

McClune can often be spotted at one of Portland’s local coffee shops on weekends, chatting with her husband whom she met way back in seventh grade, or walking her two yellow labs. She is eager to welcome new patients into her practice to help them work through health challenges so they can enjoy the fullest, most active lifestyle possible.
