I was drawn to family medicine because I enjoy building strong relationships with my patients. Growing up in a rural area, I didn’t always have access to providers, so in my practice I try to cultivate trust, understanding and shared decision-making.
I grew up in Lincoln City on the beautiful Oregon Coast and moved to Portland to attend Lewis & Clark College, where I earned a degree in international affairs. I spent a year teaching English in France before returning to Oregon, where I started thinking about how to make a positive impact in my home community. One of the best ways to do that, I decided, was to become a health care provider and to focus on preventive and primary care. My training in physician associate studies at Oregon Health & Science University emphasized cultural sensitivity and the social determinants of health, and I’ve carried these values forward into my philosophy of patient care.
Hiking and biking are two of my favorite ways to stay active and to enjoy Oregon’s natural beauty. Other hobbies include foraging for chanterelles, crabbing, roasting coffee, rooting for the Portland Trail Blazers and playing pickleball. If I’m not doing one of these, I’m probably watching a movie at the Hollywood Theatre.
Please note: As a physician associate, Ryan sees same-day/overflow patients for other Northeast Clinic physicians. Patients can’t choose Ryan as their primary care provider.
