The Portland Clinic Foundation Accelerates to 40 Percent Growth in 2018 Grant Requests, Awarding $40,000 to 17 Portland-area Nonprofits

Requests totaling more than $280,000 were received for the 2018 grant initiative, a 40 percent increase from last year’s inaugural campaign.

PORTLAND, Ore. – In just its second year of accepting public grant applications, The Portland Clinic Foundation announced today that it has awarded $40,000 in unrestricted grants to 17 local nonprofit organizations in the Portland metropolitan area.

Requests totaling more than $280,000 were received for the 2018 grant initiative, a 40 percent increase from last year’s inaugural campaign that saw 44 organizations participate and $30,000 in grants awarded to 16 local nonprofit groups.

“We are delighted to increase our level of support for greater Portland’s nonprofits as there is clearly significant need across our community,” said The Portland Clinic Foundation Executive Director Kristin Anderson. “After careful evaluation of 58 applications, we have chosen 17 nonprofits that help diverse communities across greater Portland. Our grantees provide services ranging from basic needs such as health, shelter and food services to improving our region through championing social justice and evidence-driven systemic change. The Portland Clinic Foundation’s board, donors and staff are proud to support all of these remarkable organizations, and we are grateful for the opportunity to participate in their work to advance community wellness.”

About The Portland Clinic Foundation
Through evidence-informed, results-oriented philanthropy, The Portland Clinic Foundation supports nonprofits that improve community wellness and advance the social determinants of good health—whether through early childhood education, environmental clean-up, racial equity advocacy, domestic violence prevention, or a groundbreaking local theater production. The Foundation is funded through the generosity of The Portland Clinic and through friends, family, colleagues, doctors, patients and community members who want to engage in cutting-edge philanthropy. By combining community contributions with The Portland Clinic Foundation’s in-depth research and careful analysis, The Portland Clinic Foundation leverages donor generosity for maximum benefit to local nonprofits. The Foundation, which is an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit, is unique among medical foundations in that all funds raised are distributed to other nonprofits rather than retained to support internal projects. Foundation expenses are paid by The Portland Clinic, which means that 100 percent of contributions go to support Portland’s communities in need. More information can be found on the foundation’s website.
